Hopkins Printing Earns G7 Color Certification

COLUMBUS, OHIO (June 4, 2009) – Hopkins Printing continues to move forward with the achievement of G7 Master Printer Certification from IDEAlliance. This certification demonstrates the ability to print to gray balance standards, which improves the printing quality and consistency of a product.

Hopkins is not only G7 certified, but is classified as a Master Printer by IDEAlliance due to having all their printing presses certified with the G7 process. This applies to all four multicolor offset presses and their NexPress digital press. Press sheets from each
device match the proof and match each of the other presses.

Hopkins Printing achieved G7 certification after a complete audit and inspection of its printing processes at their facility in Columbus. The certification verifies that Hopkins Printing has been able to develop and manage the difficult process of critical color consistency.

The IDEAlliance works with organizations around the globe to establish these high standards. “It is a great validation of all that our people have done with constantly improving the processes that result in great printing.” said Jim Hopkins, the President of Hopkins Printing.

By becoming G7 certified, Hopkins Printing is part of a select few printing companies in Ohio and in the country that are able to perform to this high standard. Hopkins has always worked hard to continually improve their processes. “This is one more way we are able to improve what we do for our valued customers.” said Roy Waterhouse, V.P. of Sales & Marketing.

Hopkins Printing Earns Prestigious Environmental Certification

COLUMBUS, OHIO (November 2, 2007) – Hopkins Printing continues to demonstrate its commitment to environmentally responsible business practices by recently earning a prestigious certification from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

Hopkins Printing achieved FSC certification after a complete audit and inspection of its printing facility in Columbus. The certification verifies that Hopkins Printing is part of a €œChain of Custody€ that tracks certified paper products from the forest to the printer and ensures that FSC-certified products originate from well-managed forests.

The FSC is an international organization that brings people together to find solutions that promote responsible stewardship of the world€™s forests. Proper forest management ensures that the harvest of timber and non-timber products maintains the forest’s biodiversity, productivity and ecological processes.

Hopkins Printing€™s Chain of Custody certification means that certain paper purchased by the company is segregated and documented as having originated in an FSC-certified forest, thereby giving Hopkins Printing the ability to produce environmentally responsible printed products by using FSC-certified paper. The company€™s clients may now choose to use FSC-certified paper and the FSC logo on their printed product to inform their customers of their choice to use forest-friendly paper stock.

€œWe take seriously our responsibility to a healthy environment for our children and grandchildren.€ said Jim Hopkins, president of Hopkins Printing. €œWe want to be part of an industry that is known for being a positive part of society.€

By becoming FSC certified, Hopkins Printing€™s plant is part of a larger picture of FSC-certified forests, mills, merchants and other printers who all choose to be environmentally conscious and stand against irresponsible forestry practices.

Hopkins has always worked hard to be an environmentally friendly printing company €“ soy based inks, recycled blanket wash, waste removal systems and a paper baler are just a few of their efforts.

About Forest Stewardship Council

The FSC is a non-profit organization that monitors logging procedures and works to eliminate logging accompanying practices such as habitat destruction, water pollution, displacement of indigenous people and violence against people and wildlife.

Hopkins Printing Rewards Employees with Stock Ownership Plan

COLUMBUS, OHIO (October 16, 2007) – Hopkins Printing has announced the formation of an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) to recognize its employees€™ commitment to the company and as a way to advance its sustainable growth.

€œAs we considered the long-term future of the company and our employees, it seemed right to us that it be sold to our employees rather than to outside interests,€ said Jim Hopkins, president of Hopkins Printing. €œWithout the hard work and dedication of our employees, we would not have reached the success we have attained, nor would we have become one of the most award-winning printing companies in Central Ohio.

€œWhat better way for us to reward our employees?€

The plan enables employees to share in ownership and provides them with long-term retirement benefits. An ESOP operates through a trust to which a company sells part or all of its stock. The employees are beneficiaries of the trust.

Hopkins Printing€™s ESOP joins about 11,000 other ESOP plans operating in the United States. When the transaction is completed the company€™s ESOP will own 100 percent of the company, and the current management team will remain in place.

€œWith this sense of ownership and because the company€™s success will be reflected in the price of the stock the trust holds, the employees will want to see Hopkins Printing stay strong and continue to improve,€ said Roy Waterhouse, vice president of sales and marketing. €œThis decision reflects our tradition of caring for our employees and customers, and it increases what we are able to do for them.€

The ESOP reinforces Hopkins Printing€™s goal of providing employees with a great place to work. Companies with ESOPs in place are found, on average, to perform better than their non-ESOP counterparts.

Leading Print Executive Inducted into 2006 Printing Impressions/RIT Printing Industry Hall of Fame

COLUMBUS, OHIO (October 26, 2006) – Hopkins Printing President/CEO Jim Hopkins was inducted into the 2006 Printing Impressions/Rochester Institute of Technology Printing Industry Hall of Fame Monday at the 19th Annual Gold Ink Awards Reception and Banquet in Chicago, Ill.

Each year four professionals from the printing and production industry in Canada and the United States are inducted into the Printing Impressions/RIT Hall of Fame. These individuals represent the best, and are honored for their outstanding achievements and contributions to the printing and publishing industries.

Upon graduating high school in 1959, Hopkins entered the U.S. Air Force. After serving the armed services, he entered a manufacturing job with a rolling bearing company, and then went to drafting school for two years. Harnessing his talents and skills learned through various trades, he opened a single press printing operation out of his garage. Progressing from quick printing to commercial printing, he turned Columbus, OH-based Hopkins Printing into a successful $16 million commercial printer.

Hopkins said growing up in a blue-collar family instilled a great work ethic in him that helped propel him into the business and become one of the best in the industry.

€œTo be considered one of the best in the industry is quite and honor, said Hopkins. €œIn some ways, I€™ve kind of lived the American Dream. I started a company in my garage and it€™s grown into a multimillion-dollar business.€

Prior to being inducted into the Hall of Fame, Hopkins€™ drive to succeed and hard work ethic have not gone unnoticed.  He was named a 2000 Ernst & Young Master Entrepreneur of the Year for the Columbus/Central Ohio area; in 2001, he won the GATF Education Award of Excellence; and in 2005 he was inducted into the Junior Achievement Central Ohio Business Hall of Fame.

Hopkins is chairman of the Printing Industry Educational Foundation and has served on the board of his local PIA affiliate, PIANKO (Northern Kentucky and Ohio).  He€™s also involved with the Ohio Association of SkillsUSA, which sees industries partner with teachers and students to ensure the strength of future workforces.
